Welcome to Portland Lap Wheel Orientation! With the help of this online tutorial and in-person orientation you will soon understand the basics of operating a Lap Wheel during Open Studio at Resource Center Portland.
In the first part of orientation, you’ll follow along with the 30-minute Lap Wheel Orientation video and its downloadable Orientation Guide. This will give you a basic overview of lap wheel operation and safety practices. In the second part of orientation, you’ll schedule an appointment at Bullseye Resource Center Portland. During your appointment, you’ll receive in-person, hands-on oversight of your lap wheel competency using a small piece of provided glass. After you've demonstrated that you know your way around the lap wheel, you will be approved to rent and use it for your own Bullseye glass projects!
To get started, sign up, then download your Orientation Guide. It contains lots of helpful information, plus the link and password you'll need to access the video tutorial.
Please note: this orientation does not teach glassworking methods or introduce projects. But if you're making plates, bowls, or other objects that require material removal, you'll immediately appreciate what a game-changing tool the lap wheel can be.
Long pants and closed toed shoes are required. An apron, eye protection, and rubber boots will be provided. You may also bring your own boots or other closed-toed shoes you don’t mind getting wet.
We look forward to seeing you!
