Discover techniques for creating smoother, brighter, and more reflective cast glass surfaces while exploring the striking aesthetic possibilities of mirrored glass. Whether you're a seasoned glass artist or new to kiln casting, this lecture offers a unique opportunity to learn from more than a decade of dedicated research by Dr. Joanna Manousis. Her practice-based PhD at The National Glass Centre, UK, has yielded significant discoveries in dimensional cast-glass mirror-making.
Drawing on knowledge gained from more than 100 rigorous tests, Manousis will reveal how subtle adjustments to mould-making processes, glass composition, refractory materials, firing schedules, post-firing treatments, and original models can dramatically influence the shine, clarity, and reflectivity of mirrored cast surfaces. She will also explore the diverse aesthetic possibilities these surfaces can achieve, from sleek and highly polished finishes to richly textured and nuanced effects.

Requirements
- We will be using Zoom for the live class session. For optimal streaming, Zoom recommends using their desktop program or mobile app. (Only use their web service if you cannot access the other options.) In addition, we strongly recommend using a desktop or laptop computer with all of the following: high-speed internet, a web cam, a microphone, and speakers. A tablet may suffice. Phones, however, should be avoided. Smartphone screens will be too small, and a landline phone will not allow for any interactivity.
