Bold Design and Vivid Color with Morgan Madison, Online Class, October 23 and November 13, 2026

Learn the graphically bold process and approach Artist Morgan Madison uses when translating images into bold glass compositions. You will work from a photograph of a chosen place or landscape and translate it into two compelling 2-dimensional kilnformed projects using sheet glass and glass powders.

Introducing the ideas of Concept, Composition, Color, and Craftsmanship, Morgan will guide you step-by-step from idea to presentation-ready artwork that is thoughtfully composed, rich in meaning and color, and well-crafted. You will begin by selecting a photograph of a place or scene that holds meaning for you—this will serve as the source material for both projects. You will work from the original image first, using glass strips to quickly create a light-handed, abstracted version of your image. This will allow you to be relaxed and open as you get to know the composition, experiment with color, and determine which elements are truly important to recreate, and what can be edited out of your glass translation.

To translate that photograph into a graphic composition suitable for creating in glass, Morgan will share his favorite design and drawing app for use on a tablet with a digital pencil or stylus. Within this free app you will import your photograph and trace over it, moving, manipulating, and duplicating design elements to simplify and refine your image. You will even be able to select and fill areas with specific Bullseye Glass colors using Bullseye's Color Conversion Chart. With your study as a reference, you will make more informed choices about color, scale, and level of detail as you design a larger, more carefully considered composition. The resulting design will become your map for constructing both of your larger panel projects.

With your design in hand, and your study for reference, you will move into constructing your image panel with confidence, able to focus on your craftsmanship and the building process. Along the way, you will develop a grounded creative process, gain adaptable tools, and learn techniques that inspire fearless expression and support your evolution as an artist. Morgan will guide you through the entire process: creating a test study, designing a larger composition, methodical construction techniques, and installation of a professional wall mount for seamless display. Get bold, and make every bit of your process resonate—from concept to completion!

Whether you are new to working with glass or have lots of studio experience, if you are curious about designing and creating representational compositions, Morgan's techniques are straightforward and adaptable and use only basic glass cutting. Small-scale studio tools like the Grinder and Taurus Ring Saw are helpful with these methods, but not necessary to get started. If you are ready to start creating projects with intention and purpose, Morgan's methods will provide a clear path to a more meaningful studio practice.

The class will happen over two sessions:

• Session 1 is the Video Watch Party! You will go through the entire class video with Morgan, stopping regularly for clarifying review. You will be able to type questions into the live chat window and the Teaching Assistant will work with Morgan to address your questions in real time.
• Session 2 is Project Sharing! During this Session, Morgan will lead discussion and review of class projects that began implementing lessons from Sessions 1.
