Details

Creating ultra-thin glassware is possible in a kiln. In this two-part 5.5-hour class, beginning and advanced students alike will learn to make fused pieces as thin as 1-3mm by working under pressure in their kilns. The class will explore the distinct painterly effects working under pressure can offer—whether soothing gradients or kinetic patterns. Along with the unique visual and technical capabilities this process unlocks, it also provides a method for transforming small glass pieces into larger glassworks of exquisite color. Thin for the win!

Purchase of this class includes permanent access to Under Pressure with Ted Sawyer, a long-format instructional video (2+ hours), not available anywhere else. Watch the video anywhere and anytime. To get started after your purchase of the class, go to Account > My Available Downloads where you'll be able to download the class pdf. It contains the instructions you'll need to access the video and class handouts.

The live, online aspects of the class will happen in two sessions. The first of these is a Viewing Party where you go through the video lesson chapter by chapter with your cohort and instructor Ted Sawyer. Students will be able to ask questions and get live answers throughout this session. The second live, online session will take place several weeks later, after you’ve had time to try the technique. During the follow up, students will review each others’ uploaded images of Under Pressure projects. You’ll discuss what worked, what didn’t, and why.

We believe this entire package is an exceptional way to learn! It’s an opportunity to get a thorough, step-by-step understanding of how to use pressure in a kiln. So get ready to join two live Q&A sessions with Ted Sawyer, Bullseye's Director of Research and Education, to share your work, to inspire and be inspired, and to take your home studio to wonderful new dimensions.

A desktop or laptop computer with strong, reliable internet access is required. A tablet may work, but phones are not recommended. A web camera is optional but encouraged to enhance the class atmosphere.

Prerequisites: Recommended for beginning-to-advanced students with access to a kiln that has a minimum 10 x 10 inch shelf size, plus two additional shelves. A supply and material list will be provided.
