Creating ultra-thin glassware is possible in a kiln. In this two-part 6-hour class, beginning and advanced students alike will learn to make fused pieces as thin as 1-3mm by working under pressure in their kilns. The class will explore the distinct painterly effects working under pressure can offer—whether soothing gradients or kinetic patterns. Along with the unique visual and technical capabilities this process unlocks, it also provides a method for transforming small glass pieces into larger glassworks of exquisite color. Thin for the win!

This live online class includes:

  • A valuable class guide packed with helpful information
  • Long-term access to Under Pressure with Ted Sawyer, a long-format instructional video (2+ hours) that you can watch any where, any time
  • The chance to ask questions in real time over Zoom with Ted Sawyer—with a focus on class projects during the second session

The class will happen over two sessions:

  • The first of these is a Viewing Party where you go through the video lesson chapter by chapter with your cohort and instructor Ted Sawyer. Students will be able to ask questions and get live answers throughout this session.
  • The second live, online session will take place several weeks later, after you’ve had time to try the technique. During the follow up, students will review each others’ uploaded images of Under Pressure projects. You’ll discuss what worked, what didn’t, and why.

To get started after your purchase of the class, go to Account > My Available Downloads where you'll be able to download the class pdf. It contains the instructions you'll need to access the video and class handouts.
