Pâte de verre, French for “paste of glass” is a traditional art nouveau style that will be explored in this class. It involves model and mold making, casting with glass powders and frit, traditional glass working techniques, and ways to work like a painter to apply glass into your molds. From completely opaque-like marble, to translucent, to transparent, the results of this process are unique. You will have the opportunity to explore various options for your work, experiencing how the size of the glass particles will determine the outcome of your casting. Create color samples through mixing powders, which will function as palettes of endless possibilities, as well as two relief forms to explore movement of glass, color application, form, texture, and color gradation. No glass experience necessary- all levels welcomed.
