Press molds have a very unique and purposeful design, which allows thinner objects to be cast, as well as forms containing various openings or texture on all surfaces. This two-part mold design incorporates locking keys and with weights, presses glass into a modeled void on a horizontal plane.
Students will be guided through the steps of fabricating basic press molds for glass frit, as well as sheet glass. We will then review different ways of advancing the process through pâte de verre color application or utilizing fused sheet designs.
Participants will be able to work from found objects or modeled clay. Firing schedules will be explained and reviewed throughout the workshop, as well as tricks and tips for coldworking thin cast objects.
