Welcome to the Great Plates Online Class with Studio Session for Bullseye Resource Center Los Angeles! No matter your experience working with glass, this online and in-person class will guide you through the entire process of how to make amazing plates, covering several design options. Your Great Plates class experience will happen in two parts.

In the first part of class, you'll follow along with the 40-minute Great Plates video and its downloadable Class Guide. Your instructor in the video, Ted Sawyer, is the Director of Research and Education at Bullseye Glass Company. His expertise has been pivotal in the success of giant glass projects, but here he will show you how to make giant successes out of your own handmade pieces.

You can complete this part of class anytime before part two, which happens on December 18, starting at 10:30am. That's when you'll come to Bullseye Resource Center Los Angeles to make your own gorgeous plate! We'll supply a generous selection of sheet glass and accessory glass, a clean and spacious studio workspace, and all the tools you need. Plus, we'll take care of all the kiln work it takes to fire, slump, and coldwork your plate! You'll then be able to pick up your finished plate at the Resource Center as soon as a few days later. We're confident you'll be delighted with your new creation!

To get started, sign up for the class, then download your Class Guide. It contains lots of helpful information, plus the link and password you'll need to access the class video. Watch the video, jotting down notes and ideas. Then bring those along with you to your studio time on Saturday, December 18. Again, your time in the studio includes:

  • Plenty of elbowroom in our professional studio
  • A no-rush, relaxing atmosphere with plenty of time for making your plate
  • A generous selection of sheet glass and accessory glass for making your plate (equivalent to the selection shown in the video)
  • Access to cutters, pliers, glues, safety glasses, etc — basically all the tools you'll need to craft a one-of-a-kind plate
  • The availability of friendly staff to help with your questions
  • Two kiln firings (for fusing, then slumping) that our staff will take care of for you

Because your session in the studio will be self-guided, it's a good idea to review the online Great Plates class ahead of time. Bring your own laptop or tablet with earphones/earbuds to your Studio Session if you’d like to be able to refer to the video while making your plate.

Long pants and closed toed shoes are recommended in the glass studio.

We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, December 18, at 10:30am!
