Kathryn Wightman obtained her BA and MA from the University of Sunderland. In 2011, she completed PhD research (also at the University of Sunderland) focusing on the development and application of creative printmaking processes for the decoration of blown glass. In 2012, she relocated to New Zealand to teach at the Wanganui Glass School and the Wanganui School of Design. Having developed a strong visual aesthetic rooted in textiles and pattern design, Wightman is successfully integrating digital technologies and hand-based skills into her practice.
