Learn design and technical skills that lead to stronger, more personal, and more original work.

Class Times
Friday - Sunday 10am - 6pm, Monday 10am - 1pm

Richard Parrish's Tapestry bowls, trays, and wall panels are widely recognized for their intricate patterning and coloration. The Tapestry pieces rely on color relationships, design, and technique for success. This workshop explores how Parrish develops an original idea into a comprehensive line of studio glasswork.

Workshop participants will make two fused tapestry panels as a means of learning the major techniques for making these pieces as well as the subtleties of color use and pattern making. The first panel will introduce the necessary techniques and initial color and pattern thoughts. The second panel will be a significant piece carried through from beginning to end to understand the importance of well-made and well-finished work. Small samples and additional applications of this technique will be discussed along the way.

In addition to learning how Parrish makes his Tapestry pieces, participants will be introduced to a way of thinking about and developing new work—whether it be large or small scale—based on a belief that work that begins with ideas and is supported by design and technical knowledge will be stronger, more personal, and more original.
