When we hear the word "metamorphosis," we might imagine, hidden within a cocoon, a caterpillar sleeping peacefully, perhaps dreaming, as it slowly grows wings and transforms into a butterfly. In reality, the caterpillar dissolves completely into a primordial soup. In that soup float Imaginal Discs that hold DNA. These cells will multiply into the attributes of a butterfly.
During this time of cocooning, many of us are experiencing our own metamorphosis, our old ways dissolving into a primordial soup of possibility.
In this workshop, you can explore this metamorphic moment with others, through exercises using simple materials, memories, words, and dreams. These exercises will help you connect more deeply to your unconscious and to what your body knows. You will learn to trust your process as the way to bring your work into being—not as a premeditated and preconfigured vision manifested—but as something that manifests through making and ritual.
The workshop includes pre-session assignments, 1 eight-hour virtual live class and 1 four-hour virtual live follow-up class, both on Zoom.
We will not be teaching glass techniques. This class is about exploring your creative process at a moment of metamorphosis. What you birth will find its voice through your glass as well as other materials.
A desktop or laptop computer with strong, reliable internet access is required. A tablet may work, but phones are not recommended. A web camera is essential as it is important that everyone be able to connect visually during this workshop.
Prerequisites: All levels are welcome!
