“Space is the breath of art.” – Frank Lloyd Wright

Reduce, refine, simplify. The space we leave in our work can be more powerful than what we put in it. Learn to distill ideas down to their essence, refining your designs into compelling works in glass.

Your first project will be structured to hone kilnforming and coldworking techniques while establishing a conceptual toolkit. Your second project will begin with developing and refining ideas through discussion, model making, and small, self-directed tests in glass, then move to creating a final piece. Techniques covered include fusing forms with multiple layers, constructing molds, and coldworking to create different surface qualities. In addition to project work, Loughlin will demonstrate specialized kilnforming techniques, including fusing a hollow box form, multi-point annealing, and her specific glass powder application.
